Nick Clegg & Lib Dems back school crossing campaign

Sheffield Hallam MP Nick Clegg has attacked Sheffield City Council for administrative delays that have left a local junior school without a crossing warden for 3 months.

He has thrown his weight behind a local petition by parents at Ecclesall Infant School urging the Council to get the position advertised as soon as possible.

The petition has received over 1,000 signatures, but the Council has not even advertised the position, despite it being vacant since October 2014.

Nick Clegg said, “The Council really need to stop dragging their feet on this. We’re talking about little children being protected on a busy road, so for that to be delayed by Council red tape is shameful.

“The position has been vacant since October and there are people interested in doing the job, so we’re only waiting for the Council to advertise the position.

“This petition started after a driver drove through the crossing when children were walking across it. Fortunately no one was injured, but the Council really need to get a move on and get a crossing warden in place.”
