The council has recently decided to expand Hallam school to accommodate the increasing numbers of children in the S10 area.
The plans detailing the proposed building, changes to the surrounding playing fields, and access points are expected to be submitted for planning consent in the near future.
At the two public meetings held earlier this year members of the public were clear that the biggest issues were concerns about safety and inconvenience caused by parking by both staff and parents on Hallam Grange Crescent and Hillcote Close. Residents were also keen to maximise public access and use of the open space and footpaths.
Cllr Andy Sangar said, ‘it is vital that these plans take account of residents’ concerns; that parking within the school grounds is adequate for staff and changes to highway parking are made to reduce the impact of this expansion on local residents and ensure the safety of children.’
Local councillors will be studying these plans carefully and challenging the council to meet the needs of both children and residents.
