Make Eckington Way a ''Field in Trust'

The Liberal Democrats want to safeguard Eckington Way for future generations

Local Liberal Democrat Councillors have launched a petition to designate the land near Eckington Way as a 'Field in Trust', which would safeguard it from industrial development and maintain it as a vital community asset. The land, which was recently included in the Labour-led council's draft plan as an 'industrial and travelling show people site', has been a subject of concern among local residents. The local councillors believe that preserving this green space is essential for the well-being of the community and the environment. Councillor Ian Horner stated, “Our green spaces are invaluable. They are places for recreation, reflection, and a haven for local wildlife. It is crucial that we protect them for future generations.” The draft local plan went to consultation earlier this year. Any amendments will be debated in the next few months, with a plan going to Government by the end of the year. Councillor Horner added, “We’re pushing hard to get this site removed from the plan in the Town Hall. But we also want to make it a ‘Field in Trust’ to make sure it’s protected for years to come.” The petition is now available for signatures, and Councillor Horner urges all local residents to participate.
