An ambulance.

Save Our Ambulance Stations

Yorkshire Ambulance Service plans to close three Sheffield stations — with no public say. Sign Sophie Crossthorn's petition to demand a proper consultation before it's too late.

Plans leaked by a member of YAS staff reveal that Middlewood, Batemoor, and Longley ambulance stations are set to be merged into a single "super station" in Attercliffe — on the far east side of the city.

Longer response times aren't just an inconvenience. For someone in cardiac arrest, a stroke, or a serious accident — every minute matters. Communities across Sheffield could face significantly longer waits, with no guarantee that lives won't be lost as a result.

"All any of us want is to know someone will be there for us in our time of need. I've sat with families who've waited hours for an ambulance that should have been there for them in minutes. These plans would make that situation worse — not better."

— Sophie Crossthorn, Sheffield Lib Dem spokesperson for Health and candidate for Sheffield Hallam

What makes this even more alarming is that Yorkshire Ambulance Service has no plans to consult the public. A decision of this magnitude — affecting the lives of hundreds of thousands of Sheffield residents — is being made behind closed doors.

WHAT WE KNOW:

🏥 Three stations at risk: Middlewood, Batemoor, and Longley — all proposed for closure under the plans.
📍 Single replacement site: All operations would be consolidated into one station in Attercliffe, in the east of Sheffield.
Longer response times feared: Communities across our city but especially in outlying areas face significantly longer waits under this proposal.
🤫 No public consultation planned: YAS has not announced any intention to consult local communities on these major changes.

Our ask of the Yorkshire Ambulance Service:

  1. Halt any decision on station closures until full public consultation has taken place.
  2. Hold public meetings across Sheffield communities — including those in outlaying areas — before any changes are agreed.
  3. Commission an independent review of the proposed changes' impact on ambulance response times across all parts of Sheffield.
  4. Publish the full plans so that residents can understand what is being proposed and why.

Add your name to the petition. Sophie will deliver every signature directly to Yorkshire Ambulance Service and push for the public meetings our communities deserve.

SIGN NOW: Save Our Ambulance Stations

We, the undersigned, call on Yorkshire Ambulance Service to immediately halt any decision on the proposed closure of Middlewood, Batemoor, and Longley ambulance stations and the consolidation of all services into a single site in Attercliffe. A change of this scale will have serious consequences for emergency response times across Sheffield.

We demand that YAS hold public meetings across our communities before any decision is made, commission an independent review of the impact on response times across all parts of Sheffield, and publish the full proposals so that residents can scrutinise what is being planned and why. Decisions about our emergency services must not be made behind closed doors — Sheffield deserves a proper say.
