Steve Ayris
Cllr Steve Ayris has spent the last 12 years standing up for Graves Park and working hard for local people. He has built a strong record of local action alongside former councillors Ian and Sue Auckland, and now continues that work with Cllr Mohammed Mahroof, listening to residents and pushing for practical solutions on the issues that matter most to you! He has campaigned for safer roads, including calling for new safety measures near Norton Free CoE Primary School and safer crossings near Woodseats Primary and Abbey Lane Primary schools.
He has also been working to tackle local crime and antisocial behaviour, after many residents raised concerns about poor police response times and safety in the area. A strong supporter of protecting local green spaces, Steve has successfully campaigned for the return of the Norton Nurseries depot land to Graves Park and backed efforts to protect parks and green spaces. If you want to send Labour a message and keep the local champion Graves Park deserves, back Lib Dem Steve this May.
Returning Norton Nurseries to the Park
One of Steve's most significant achievements has been campaigning for the return of Norton Nurseries depot land to Graves Park.
After years of Lib Dem pressure, the council voted to release the land within 12 months, and in January 2026 a new conflict of interest policy was adopted and a working group set up — including Friends groups — to shape the site's future as parkland.
This is land that should always have been part of the park, and Steve has fought to make that happen. Once restored, it will give residents more green space right on their doorstep in Norton and Woodseats.
Tackling Crime and Anti-Social Behaviour
Residents in Graves Park have told Steve that crime and antisocial behaviour are among their biggest concerns.
He has been campaigning for visible, community-led policing and pushing for better enforcement on roads like Smithy Wood Crescent, where speeding continues despite an Access Only order and speed limit in place. Reform UK's only Sheffield councillor said more police "wasn't the solution" — Steve strongly disagrees.
He has campaigned for safer roads, including calling for new safety measures near Norton Free CoE Primary School and safer crossings near Woodseats Primary and Abbey Lane Primary schools.
Supporting Woodseats and Local Businesses
Steve has been working with local traders on Chesterfield Road to tackle the long-standing shortage of public parking that is holding back the Woodseats high street.
He and Mohammed Mahroof met with businesses to explore practical solutions that would make it easier for customers to stop and shop. Steve has also supported community improvements that have brightened the local area — new murals, benches and tree planting have made Woodseats a more welcoming place to visit.
The Lib Dem-led South Local Area Committee funded cost of living advice sessions that put over £100,000 back into residents' pockets. Practical local action that makes a real difference to families.
6 To Fix
The Liberal Democrat Plan
These are our six most urgent commitments — the things Sheffield people have told us repeatedly need fixing, and that a stronger Liberal Democrat group would make happen.
1. A plan to fix our roads
Let’s stop with the patch work. If a road fails multiple times then it needs a long term fix.
2. Protect our green fields
New homes on previously used land first, not on fields and green spaces.
3. Health in our communities
Put new health services where people need them.
4. Clean up our streets
Tough enforcement against anti-social behaviour, illegal vapes and organised retail crime.
5. Back Sheffield's future
More apprenticeships, more local jobs, working with businesses to keep talent in the city.
6. A fair deal for renters
Stronger enforcement on rogue landlords, clearer rights and real support if your landlord lets you down.
