Gail Smith
Gail Smith has spent more than 14 years standing up for local people and delivering action in Mosborough ward. She has built a strong record of listening to residents, keeping in touch all year round and fighting on the issues that matter most to our communities. As Deputy Chair of the South East Local Area Committee, Gail has developed a strong reputation for protecting our green belt and standing with residents against Labour and the Green Party's plans to pave over local green spaces.
Including the proposed site at Eckington Way. She has also been campaigning for more police in our area to tackle crime and anti-social behaviour, and rebuild trust with local people. She is also pushing for better public transport in our area that's affordable and reliable.
This election is a chance to keep backing a strong local voice who will stop Reform UK in our area, but only if you back Gail Smith and the Liberal Democrats this May. No one else can stop Reform UK this time.
Defending Our Green Belt
Despite thousands of objections from residents across Mosborough, Labour and the Green Party pushed through plans to release the Eckington Way site as part of Sheffield's Local Plan. Gail called it "outrageous" — pointing to clear evidence of more traffic, more pollution and the permanent loss of green space that new development would bring.
The Lib Dems were the only party at Sheffield City Council to vote against the plan. Gail will keep challenging the decision and fighting for you.
Safer Streets for Everyone
After the tragic death of a local girl at the High Street and Station Road junction, Gail has been campaigning for modern traffic lights that make crossing safer for everyone. Highways officers confirmed the crossing is in the safest possible position, but Gail and Glynis Chapman are continuing to press for more visible and modern signals to protect pedestrians.
Gail has also been calling for more police to tackle the crime and antisocial behaviour that residents have raised with her. Reform UK's only Sheffield councillor said more police "wasn't the solution" to crime and ASB — Gail flatly disagrees and will keep pushing for visible community policing in Mosborough and the surrounding area.
Working All Year Round, Not Just at Election Time
Gail Smith has a straightforward approach: she turns up, she listens, and she acts. She has managed to secure new litter bins across the area. Gail has also worked hard to report pot holes and get the filled in quickly. After years of campaigning, larger blue bins are now being rolled out across Sheffield — a win against Labour and Green Party opposition.
She does not only appear at election time. She is here all year, fighting for Mosborough.
6 To Fix
The Liberal Democrat Plan
These are our six most urgent commitments — the things Sheffield people have told us repeatedly need fixing, and that a stronger Liberal Democrat group would make happen.
1. A plan to fix our roads
Let’s stop with the patch work. If a road fails multiple times then it needs a long term fix.
2. Protect our green fields
New homes on previously used land first, not on fields and green spaces.
3. Health in our communities
Put new health services where people need them.
4. Clean up our streets
Tough enforcement against anti-social behaviour, illegal vapes and organised retail crime.
5. Back Sheffield's future
More apprenticeships, more local jobs, working with businesses to keep talent in the city.
6. A fair deal for renters
Stronger enforcement on rogue landlords, clearer rights and real support if your landlord lets you down.
