Dr Will Sapwell
Lib Dem Dr Will Sapwell is working hard for Stannington ward. He is a local cardiologist who lives in Stannington, he understands how important it is to have strong local services and is a councillor who gets things done. Working closely with community groups, Will and the Lib Dem team have helped secure real improvements for our area.
After years of campaigning, work is now under way on the new pavilion in Stannington Park. He has also supported efforts to refurbish the playground, backing local people who want better spaces for families and children. That's the difference local Lib Dem champions can make!
Will has also been pushing for better bus services, to link our communities; and has been holding Yorkshire Water to account when residents have been let down. He knows local people are frustrated by being taken for granted by Labour. In May's election you can send Starmer's Labour a message by backing Dr Will Sapwell and the Lib Dem team.
Restoring Stannington Pavilion
The Stannington Pavilion has been in a poor state for years, and residents have been raising it consistently on the doorstep. Will made it a priority from day one. Working with local community groups and Sheffield City Council, funding has been secured and initial preparatory work has already begun on schedule. The pavilion is a community hub that brings people together across Stannington, Bradfields and beyond.
Will has also been supporting the local community group in their plans to refurbish Stannington Playground, including tackling the standing groundwater problem that has made parts of the play area unusable. A groundwater survey has been funded to assess the drainage.
Fighting for Better Rural Bus Links
Residents in Bradfield, Dungworth and the rural communities of Stannington ward are effectively cut off from public transport on Sundays. There is no Sunday service on the Bradfield Circular route despite repeated requests from the Lib Dem team, and Labour's bus tax has pushed fares up while services decline.
Will wrote directly to the Labour South Yorkshire Mayor demanding action on the Sunday gap in provision. In the meantime, the Lib Dem team has already won a new bus route linking Stocksbridge to rural communities including Bolsterstone — showing that sustained campaigning does deliver results.
Will will keep pressing until the Bradfield Circular has the frequency and coverage that residents deserve.
Holding Yorkshire Water and Utilities to Account
When Yorkshire Water and Amey dug up Rodney Hill shortly after it had been freshly resurfaced — causing unnecessary disruption and wasting public money — Will held them to account. Amey apologised for the coordination failure.
Will has also been raising Yorkshire Water's crumbling infrastructure more broadly, pressing for investment to reduce leaks and burst pipes that blight daily life across the ward.
In September 2025 he supported the Blue Ball Inn in Worrall as it hosted the British Institute of Innkeeping CEO for the #MyPub campaign — standing up for the rural pubs and small businesses that are the backbone of Stannington's villages.
6 To Fix
The Liberal Democrat Plan
These are our six most urgent commitments — the things Sheffield people have told us repeatedly need fixing, and that a stronger Liberal Democrat group would make happen.
1. A plan to fix our roads
Let’s stop with the patch work. If a road fails multiple times then it needs a long term fix.
2. Protect our green fields
New homes on previously used land first, not on fields and green spaces.
3. Health in our communities
Put new health services where people need them.
4. Clean up our streets
Tough enforcement against anti-social behaviour, illegal vapes and organised retail crime.
5. Back Sheffield's future
More apprenticeships, more local jobs, working with businesses to keep talent in the city.
6. A fair deal for renters
Stronger enforcement on rogue landlords, clearer rights and real support if your landlord lets you down.
