Stuart Shepherd

Stuart Shepherd is working hard for Stocksbridge and Upper Don, standing up for local people and fighting on the issues that matter most to our area. As former Chair of the local Parish Council, Stuart brings real local experience and a strong record of getting things done for the community. He has been campaigning for better transport, including a tram- train extension to Stocksbridge and action to improve poor bus coverage, including pushing for the introduction of the Little Don buses.

He has also been calling for more local police in our area to tackle the rising anti-social behaviour. Stuart has been holding Yorkshire Water to account for their poor infrastructure leading to huge water waste, and standing up against threats to our green belt including the proposed site on Forge Lane in Oughtibridge. Labour cannot win here this time, and the sitting local councillor, up for election this time, lives almost 10 miles away in Dore!

Only Stuart and the Liberal Democrats can stop Reform UK winning here again.

Fighting for the Tram Extension to Stocksbridge

Stuart has been one of the strongest advocates for extending Sheffield's tram-train network all the way to Stocksbridge, with stops at Oughtibridge, Wharncliffe Side and Deepcar.

The current bus journey to Sheffield train station takes over 45 minutes — often 50% longer than driving. A tram extension would improve access to city centre jobs, support local businesses and properly connect Stocksbridge to the rest of the city.

The Reform UK councillor promised to back the extension during last year's by-election campaign, then voted against the Lib Dem proposal at Sheffield City Council.

Stuart will keep pushing for the tram extension and will not let Reform UK block the transport investment this community needs.

Protecting Our Green Belt

Labour and the Green Party voted to build thousands of homes on Sheffield's green belt — including a site on Forge Lane in Oughtibridge.

Stuart helped residents and community groups lodge their objections, called out planning inspectors for rushing their approval letter ten weeks ahead of schedule, and has been unequivocal: these are the wrong homes in the wrong place.

The Lib Dems were the only party to vote against these plans. Stuart won't stop fighting until the green belt is properly protected.

Cracking Down on Crime, ASB & Fly-Tipping

Residents across Stocksbridge, Deepcar, Oughtibridge, and our rural communities are fed up. Anti-social behaviour is rising. Fly-tipping is blighting country lanes and open spaces. And too many people feel like nobody in authority is taking it seriously.

Stuart is calling for more visible community policing to tackle ASB and rebuild trust with local people. He's also been working with local agencies to go after fly-tipping hotspots across the ward — pushing for better enforcement and real action to clean up the spaces our community relies on.

Our area deserves to feel safe and looked after. Stuart is making sure the right people are held to account.

6 To Fix

The Liberal Democrat Plan

These are our six most urgent commitments — the things Sheffield people have told us repeatedly need fixing, and that a stronger Liberal Democrat group would make happen.

A plan to fix our roads

1. A plan to fix our roads

Let’s stop with the patch work. If a road fails multiple times then it needs a long term fix.

Protect our green fields

2. Protect our green fields

New homes on previously used land first, not on fields and green spaces.

Health in our communities

3. Health in our communities

Put new health services where people need them.

Clean up our streets

4. Clean up our streets

Tough enforcement against anti-social behaviour, illegal vapes and organised retail crime.

Back Sheffield's future

5. Back Sheffield's future

More apprenticeships, more local jobs, working with businesses to keep talent in the city.

A fair deal for renters

6. A fair deal for renters

Stronger enforcement on rogue landlords, clearer rights and real support if your landlord lets you down.
